Modafinil is intended to act as an enhancer of a person’s disposition and stimulate their well being. There is no evidence that it is physically addictive though some who have tried it for sustained periods have found a psychological draw to the medication. This may be due in part to the increase in productivity they experience while taking the drug. There is no wired up feeling as the drug affect wears off, as one would experience with certain stimulants.
Modafinil falls into the class of Eugeroic medication meaning it is referred to as a “good feeling” drug though there has been some dispute to this claim. There are currently only a pair of drug preparations that qualify in this group, Modafinil & Adrafinil. Modafinil is an enhancer of locomotor behavior and perks up the memory and well being of those who take it. It increases one’s ability to remain awake and keeps them sharp but the drugs pharma effects are markedly diverse from amphetamines, Ritalin or even cocaine.
The root of its distinctiveness is evident in its effectiveness at stimulation only when this reaction is necessary. There are no swings in mood that one would feel in certain other drugs known for their stimulation qualities such as the upper Benzedrine. When someone takes modafinil there is no anxiousness or aggressive behavior, nor is there sleeplessness associated with these other stimulant medications.
Data has revealed there is no trouble falling into normal sleep rhythms when taking modafinil, relatively few adverse reactions for healthy, well advised patients, as there are with the more prescribed stimulants available. Modafinil will assist in keeping a person awake and alert partly because of its chemical reaction with anterior hypothalamus. Evidence appears to show that it just stimulates the alpha-1 brain receptors, which are required for the absorption of nor-adrenaline. Its discharge of dopamine is slight and relies on dosage amounts. This means one is not likely to become addicted or tolerant to the medication over time.
Modafinil has proven itself effectual for the therapeutic management of narcolepsy whose sufferers experience unnatural and harassing episodes of daylight sleep.
